DIY SID and ASE

The SID and ASE systems can be divided in 3 major sets: Hardware, Electronics, and Software. We suggest leaving the software portion for last. Make sure you have all the parts and pieces required for the assembly of the system before diving further into the software portion. 

Parts Required - SID System

The following parts are required to assemble the SID system:

  1. Hardware:
    • 3D Printed Parts
    • 10-24 Threaded rod with 6 11/16" (17 cm) in length (x3)
    • 10-24 Hexagonal Nuts - Stainless Steel  (x13)
    • #10 Washers - Stainless Steel (x13)
    • 10-24 x 1-1/2-in Phillips/Slotted Combination-Drive Machine Screws - Stainless Steel (x4)
    • 18x9mm Circular Buble level (x1) 
    • 10-32 Thread, 5/8" Long Nylon Slotted Flat Head Screw (x1) 
    • Teflon (PTFE) sheet - 6" x 12", 0.03" (1/32") thick with 3M 300LSE industrial-strength self-adhesive backing
    • 3/8" arch punch (to punch the circular Teflon diffusers)
  2. Electronics
    • Circuit Board
    • 2 Pin GX16 Metal Aviation Plug Connector (x3 - 1 optional for POA irradiance pyranometer)
    • 3 Pin GX16 Metal Aviation Plug Connector (x1)
    • 28 AWG Cable Copper Wire Shielded - 2 core (approximately 1 meter in length)
    • Raspberry Pi model Zero W (x1)
    • Adafruit 16 bit I2C ADC converter model ADS1115 (x1)
    • Adafruit I2C RTC model DS3231 (x1)
    • CR 1220 12mm Diameter - 3V Lithium Coin Cell Battery (x1)
    • DS18b20 Waterproof Digital Temperature Sensor (x1)
    • DS18b20 Digital Temperature Sensor (x1)
    • Luna PDB-C139 Photodiode (x2 - 1 optional for POA irradiance pyranometer)
    • 5mm LED (x2 - one green, one yellow)
    • 330 Ohm resistor (x2)
    • 470 Ohm shunt resistor (1/8 W) (x2)
    • 4.7K Ohm resistor (1/8 W) (x2)
    • 16 Gb MicroSD card
    • Female Header: 1x10-Pin, Straight (x1) - For attaching the ADS1115 to the circuit board
    • Female Header: 1x8-Pin, Straight (x1) - For attaching the DS3231 to the circuit board
    • Female Header: 2x20-Pin, Straight (x1) - For attaching the Raspberry Pi model Zero W to the circuit board

The following parts are required to assemble the SID system:

  1. Hardware:
